We are now adding Dynamic HTML, Java Script and Java Applets to this website. Some you may have already noticed. They are best viewed via MS IE 5 and 6. If you are viewing behind a corporate firewall some of the Dynamic Content may not be visible.
You may have noticed that our "Cyber-Hike section became a nightmare to navigate through. This was because we were using "Hover Buttons" supplied by MS Front Page that became HIGHLY UNSTABLE. These have been removed and now you can view our Cyber Hike Section with ease. Also we have placed all the photo intensive sections and articles in the website (including the Cyber Hikes under our New PHOTOGRAPHY section. All the pictures are (1) from the Tri-State Area where we hike and (2) non-redundant.
Whether you are a member of our club or not you are most welcome at this website. We hope you will find many things of interest in this site and enjoy our pictures. When I began this project I made up my mind that this was going to be a FUN project. SO TURN UP THE SOUND VOLUME ON YOUR COMPUTER!! You will find the normal features of any hiking club website but I have sprinkled some comic surprises throughout this site. You will also find some serious material too.
Hiking is more than an activity. It is a means to commune with nature, be with friends, make new friends, get away from the job, and be a part of the "lore of the Forrest". Even if you are a member of multiple other clubs and have no wish to join us we hope you will enjoy our site and return. This site is not to just advance our club but also to advance hiking. Currently we have over 125 pages and we are growing.
Three years ago a friend of mine, Jim Rush, suggested that I create a website for this club. I thought he was to optimistic. But I got interested and found it a lot of fun. As I and my friends create this site (it never ends) we see it as a kind of cyber magazine of hiking and the areas our hiking club treks on.
As I write this in the early summer of 2004 I hope that all members and visitors to this website enjoy many happy miles and years to come on the trail system around the metropolitan area. To those who are visiting from beyond our New York City area, you may be surprised to see that it is not a concrete jungle. All of the pictures in this website (unless marked as such) are from hikes that we take within easy reach of public transit from New York City.
. We have a growing listing of computer links. This section will be undergoing some vast improvements and additions in the late summer of 2004. Some have asked why computer links as this is a hiking club website. My reply is that you the viewer are obviously are into computers else you would not be reading this via the internet medium.
Finally the e-mail links are restored. I have had a problem with the spamatic webots. Those of you are webmasters know what i am talking about. In one week I could get over 300 messages and 290 were from advertisers for (1) sex, (2) get rich quick non-sense, (3) diet nonsense. In fact it got to the point when i was getting ads for website building and promotion materials I no longer considered that spam as AT LEAST IT WAS SOMEWHAT RELATED to the website.
One final note. The company that did our web counter has died. The count listed above was the count last year. I will be placing a new counter in this summer.

Here we see the Webmaster (left) Brian J. Dawson and Asst. Webmaster Lou Miller (right) receiving their just rewards for hogging BANDWIDTH via large pictures and the usage of flashy side effects in the website. Not to mention sophomoric humor. | ![]() |
